Communications Coordinator / Content Manager (Part-time)

The Cooney Center is an independent research and innovation lab within Sesame Workshop that advances positive futures for kids in the digital world. We conduct research on emerging technologies and collaborate with technologists, digital media producers, and educators to put this research into action to support children’s learning and well-being. 

The Content Producer will support efforts to increase the visibility of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center with a special focus on Cooney Center Sandbox initiative, which supports the development of child-centered, evidence-based digital design. We encourage candidates with a strong interest in kids tech and literacy to apply.

The Content Producer will play a key role in creating social media content that increases reach and impact, with an emphasis on raising the visibility of the Cooney Center Sandbox and cultivating awareness of our work among broader audiences. They must be able both to work independently and as part of a team; be results and deadline-oriented, and maintain a focused vision of impact. This is a part-time, hybrid position in New York City with the possibility of extension.  (15-20 hours/week)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Production

  • Develop and post social media content based on overall themes/goals for the JGCC and the Cooney Center Sandbox.
  • Attend co-design sessions and other JGCC events to capture material for social media
  • Write and produce blog posts, newsletter copy, and project-related material 
  • Graphic design and video production as necessary
  • Track relevant social media trends and influencers; identify opportunities for growth
  • Mine the JGCC archive of content for material that can be shared again and/or refreshed

Public Relations

  • Write/contribute to press releases
  • Pitch stories to media outlets 

Results Reporting 

  • Track and analyze metrics related to overall reach and impact
  • Collect results and prepare reports to be shared with partners and funders.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism education, psychology, child development, learning sciences, or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years professional experience 
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong editorial skills
  • Interest in and awareness of key issues in the fields of children’s media, learning research, and educational technology
  • Experience producing social media campaigns
  • Multimedia production skills
  • Strong proofreading and quality assurance skills.
