Immersive Media for Learning
On Tuesday, May 17, the XR Association (XRA) and Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop hosted a one-day forum to explore the use of Extended Reality (XR) technologies in high school settings. A cross-sectoral group of researchers, educators, manufacturers, and developers discussed their experiences using XR technologies (including virtual reality, mixed reality, and augmented reality) for learning—and shared their visions for future use-cases.
Throughout the forum, participants discussed the current opportunities and challenges of teaching and learning with XR. Researchers provided lightning talks around designing for diverse audiences and accessibility issues, the affordances of augmented reality, as well as assessing student learning through XR. Educators emphasized the importance of fostering opportunities for students to explore and experiment with new technologies.
