Screen Wise: What Teachers Say About Making Classroom Technology Work is a new study from the Walton Family Foundation and Gallup, produced in partnership with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. The study surveyed 2,101 U.S. K-12 teachers to understand how they experience classroom devices day-to-day—not just whether they use them, but whether they trust them, understand their purpose, and feel equipped to make them work.

Teachers see real value in classroom technology: most say parts of today’s curriculum depend on it, and many point to meaningful benefits for students who need accessibility support. They’re also telling us exactly what makes that value grow — when teachers have real oversight of how students use devices, and a real voice in choosing the tools that enter their classrooms, they feel far more positive about the technology they’re using, and are more engaged in their work as a result.
