Generation Mobile
December 13, 2010
On Tuesday, December 14 the FCC is hosting Generation Mobile, a forum that will bring together teenagers, parents, educators, and experts to discuss the many opportunities and challenges around the way kids use mobile technology today. The event takes place from 10am until 1pm at McKinley Technology High School in Washington, DC.
The forum will feature remarks by FCC Chariman Julius Genachowski and a presentation of findings from a Pew Internet and American Life study on kids and mobile phones. The forum will also include “Generation Mobile Speaks,” a panel of teens, parents and educators sharing their thoughts on mobile technology. A second panel, “Ask the Experts About Generation Mobile,” will focus on educating and empowering parents with presentations from a panel of experts.
Dr. Michael Levine, Executive Director of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, will be speaking on the panel of experts at 11:40am. Fellow speakers include Josh Gottheimer, Senior Counselor to the Chariman, FCC; Marsali Hancock, President, Internet Keep Safe Coalition; Maureen Cooney, Privacy Officer, Sprint; Dane Snowden, Vice President, External & State Affairs, CTIA; Tim Sparapani, Director of Public Policy, Facebook; Alan Simpson, Vice President for Policy, Common Sense Media; and Stephen Balkam, CEO, Family Online Safety Institute.
If you’re not able to make the event in person, the FCC will be streaming the forum live on their website. You can also submit questions in advance.
